Long Beach, Calif. - The 1999 Academic All-District VIII Women’s Volleyball first and second teams, as selected by CoSIDA, were announced today and 12 female student-athletes representing 10 different NCAA Division I institutions were honored.
First team selections include: Elisabeth Bachman (UCLA), Charlene Conley (UC Santa Barbara), Liz Covill (Weber State), Anja Grabovac (Long Beach State), Melissa Lucas (Idaho State), and Keri Nishimoto (Long Beach State). For Bachman, Conley and Covill this is their second time as a first team Academic All-District selection while it is the third time for Grabovac, who was a third team Academic All-American selection last year.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-American honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must be a starter or important reserve and be in at least their second season of competition at their current school.
The six first team members are now on the national GTE Women’s Volleyball Academic All-American ballot. First, second and third team national winners will be announced on Tuesday, December 14, 1999. A total of 49 eligible student-athletes were nominated by 24 different schools on the District VIII ballot. Members of CoSIDA in the states of California, Hawaii, Alaska, British Columbia, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Utah were responsible for voting on the squad.
