Santa Barbara, Calif. - Kathy Gregory, currently in her 26th year as head coach of the UC Santa Barbara women's volleyball team, will host her seventh-annual College Prep Camp for Girls July 16-19 on the UCSB campus.
The camp is intended to give high-caliber junior female athletes - ages 14 to 19 - the opportunity to train and learn in a college-like environment. Each day will consist of skill training, strategy sessions and position specialization, with competition limited to the evenings so that newly-acquired skills can be implemented. In addition, campers will receive guidance in the areas of college recruiting, marketing themselves, academics, off-season training, injury prevention and nutrition.
Among the highly-regarded volleyball experts assisting Gregory are UCSB Associate Head Coach Liz Towne-Gilbert, Santa Ynez Volleyball Club Director Mike Maas, Santa Barbara City College Head Coach Ed Gover and High Voltage Volleyball Club Coach Ed Jackson, a former Sacramento State standout. A number of current Gaucho players will also work as members of the camp coaching staff.
Enrollment in the College Prep Camp is limited to 25 players at each position (setter, outside hitter and middle blocker). The cost is $395 including all meals and four-nights accommodation at Tropicana Gardens, and off-campus residence hall adjacent to the UCSB campus. For those arranging their own lodging the cost is $295.
For more information or to request a camp brochure with registration form, please contact Liz Towne-Gilbert at (805) 893-2241, or via e-mail at liz.gilbert@athletics.ucsb.edu.
