SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara women's volleyball team will host its annual Spring Tournament in the Thunderdome this Saturday, April 9 beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Each of the seven participating teams will play four matches, consisting of two games to 30 points in rally scoring format. There will be no official scoring at this event, and no tournament championship will be awarded.
Two matches will run concurrently on the Thunderdome floor, while a third will serve as a warm-up court. Three-time defending Big West Conference Champion UCSB will take on UC Irvine at 10:05 a.m., Pepperdine at 11:10 a.m., Hawai'i at 12:15 p.m., and finish up with a match against longtime rival Long Beach State at 3:30 p.m. Two other schools participating in the tourney - Cal Poly and Cal State Fullerton - will not face Santa Barbara.
Admission to the UC Santa Barbara Spring Tournament is free, and all matches should conclude by approximately 4:30 p.m.
This is the second of four spring exhibition tournaments UCSB will participate in to prepare for its 2005 campaign. The Gauchos played at the University of San Diego last weekend and will travel to Loyola Marymount (April 23) and Cal Poly (April 30). UCSB will open its 2005 regular season Sept. 2-3 at a tourney hosted by Florida.
