Fort Collins, Colo. - The Colorado State women's volleyball team improved to 8-1 on the season after defeating the 13th ranked UC Santa Barbara Gauchos in the championship of the University Park Holiday Inn Classic at Moby Arena. The 7th ranked Rams defeated UCSB in straight sets, 15-9, 15-5, 15-7.
Colorado State was led by tournament MVP, Angela Knopf, who had 16 kills and hit .424. She also added five block assists in the win. Also hitting in double figures was Courtney Cox with 12 kills and 12 digs. Senior Krista Swartzendruber led the squad in digs and was named to the All-Tournament Team for her effort. Joining Swartzendruber and Knopf on the squad was teammate Summer Jennings. This marks the Rams 31st consecutive victory within the confines of Moby Arena.
The Gauchos were led by Danielle Bauer, who tallied 13 kills and two solo blocks. Setter Brooke Rundle led UCSB in digs with 10. With the loss, UCSB falls to 5-2 on the season. Rundle and Bauer were both named to the all-tournament team, as was Jaunelle Hamilton from Auburn.
For the tournament, Knopf hit .459 and tallied 39 kills, four service aces, 13 digs and 16 blocks. Jennings hit .333 while recording 22 kills, 14 blocks, four service aces and 12 digs. Swartzendruber added 23 kills, three aces, 23 digs and eight blocks.
Colorado State will host the Coors Classic next weekend, which features the University of Massachusetts, Georgia Tech and Loyola-Chicago.
