Junior Stephanie Rothstein was named the Golden1/ucsbgauchos.com Student-Athlete of the Week Monday after winning the 5,000m and the 10,000m at the Big West Track and Field Championships this past weekend.

Rothstein's first-place finish in the 5,000 helped catapult the Gauchos from third place into second ahead of Long Beach State in the women's standings. With three laps remaining, Rothstein broke away from the pack and would never look back, finishing in a time of 17:09.07.

Coming in as the favorite to win the 10,000 on Friday, Rothstein proved all predictions accurate and, along with teammate Seanna Martin, distinguished herself from the rest of the field with another strong finish. With two laps to go, the Phoenix native and Martin pulled away from the field of Long Beach State runners and cruised to a comfortable 1-2 finish.
