UCSB Crushes UC Riverside, 7-0

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team swept past UC Riverside 7-0, this Sunday afternoon at the Rob Gym Tennis Courts and snapped its five game slide in the process. With the victory, the Gauchos improve to 8-12 overall on the season, and 3-3 in Big West play.

Starting things off for UCSB were the doubles pair of Jill Damion and Asagi Onaga defeating the Highlanders Donna McCullough and Roxanne Plata 8-2. The Gauchos captured the doubles point when Tova Hausman and Brittany Kausen dispatched Angelique Corpuz and Nadia Sakhakorn 8-3, at No. 3. UC Riverside posted a win at No. 1 doubles, as Erynne Oki and H.R. Espiritu barely edged Marta Simic and Charlotte Scatliffe 8-7, (6).

In singles play, UC Santa Barbara swept all six matches to notch the win. Leading things off for the Gauchos was Charlotte Scatliffe breezing by Yasaman Sakhakorn 6-1, 6-2. Jill Damion followed suit, with a 6-2, 6-1 straight set victory at No. 2. Brittany Kausen wrapped up the win for the Gauchos, as she took care of Angelique Corpuz in straight sets as well 7-5, 6-1. UCSB ended the match with wins at No. 4, No. 1, and No. 3.

"We now have a very important and emotional match next Friday against UC Davis," said head coach Pete Kirkwood. "We are one game ahead of the Aggies in the Big West standings and will play them in our final home match of the year."

Next up for the Gauchos is a home match Friday, Apr. 11 against UC Davis. First serve at the Rob Gym Tennis Courts against the Aggies is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (PT).
