Four UCSB Players Elected to All-Big West Conference Softball Teams

May 17, 2005

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Senior first baseman Lindsey Herrin, sophomore pitcher/outfielder Jennifer Davis and sophomore shortstop Brittany Putich were each selected to the All-Big West Conference second team and sophomore Kendra Singley was awarded honorable mention, it was announced Tuesday.

Herrin, the Gauchos' only senior, led the team with 12 homeruns in 2005 and set the UCSB single season homerun record for the second consecutive year. After only two seasons at UC Santa Barbara since transferring from Iowa State, Herrin leaves the Gauchos one homer shy of the all-time career record of 23. The Coalinga, Calif. native also led the squad with 35 RBI, a .396 on base percentage and a slugging percentage of .649. She was second in batting at .290.

Davis, the Big West leader with 197 strikeouts, led the team with 13 wins, 17 complete games and an ERA of 2.09 in 167.2 innings pitched. At the plate, Davis finished the season with a .236 batting average, seven doubles, 18 runs, eight homeruns and 26 RBI.

Putich hit .280 during the 2005 campaign with six doubles, four homeruns, 16 RBI and an on base percentage of .383. She led the Gauchos with 31 runs scored, 42 hits and six stolen bases.

In addition to the three second team selections, Singley received honorable mention accolades, leading the team with a .302 batting average and 42 hits. She also chipped in with three triples, 28 runs scored, four homeruns, 24 RBI and three stolen bases.

Herrin and Putich were both named to the All-Big West second team a year ago while Davis and Singley were honorable mention in 2004.
