SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara softball team was held scoreless on four hits by Cal Poly pitching, and lost 5-0 in its final Big West Conference contest of the season Saturday at Bob Janssen field.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 35-16 overall and 15-6 in Big West play. The Gauchos final regular season record stands at 26-22 overall and 9-12 in the Big West.

Both teams were scoreless through the first three innings until the Mustangs put a run on the board in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Amy Jo Nazarenus.

The Mustangs then scored three more in the fifth highlighted by an Erin Meyers' two-run double and added a run in the sixth to take a commanding 5-0 lead.

UCSB threatened in the top of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, but were unable to put a dent in the Cal Poly lead. Danielle Meyers and Karyna Wilkerson hit back-to-back singles and Brenda Lira reached on a fielding error before starting pitcher Eva Nelson rebounded to record the final out. The Mustangs completed the three-game sweep of the Gauchos with Saturday's win.

Nelson struck out two batters and walked one in the complete game shutout and improved to 16-9.

Jennifer Davis took the loss for the Gauchos and fell to 13-12 on the year. The sophomore, who started her second game of the series, allowed five runs on eight hits while striking out two and walking two in six innings of work.
