STOCKTON, Calif. - Freshman right fielder Danielle Meyers finished 1-for-2 with two RBI as the UC Santa Barbara softball team dropped the first of three Big West Conference games with Pacific Saturday at Bill Simoni field.
Two games were scheduled to be played, but rain forced a two hour, 40 minute delay before the first game could get underway. The teams will now play the final two games of their three-game series on Sunday, Apr. 24, at noon at Bill Simoni Field.
With the loss, UCSB falls to 22-15 overall and 5-5 in the Big West while Pacific improved to 23-19 overall (7-3 Big West).
Santa Barbara jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning when Meyers drove in sophomore second baseman Kendra Singley and senior first baseman Lindsey Herrin with the bases loaded and two outs. Starting pitcher Jennifer Davis, who had reached on a fielder's choice, then scored from third as Meyers was caught attempting to steal second.
Pacific fought back to take a two-run advantage with a five-run fifth inning. Michelle Anunciation got the Tigers started with a two-run double. Jennifer Curtier added a run-scoring single and senior Ashlie D'Errico drove home two more with a single of her own in the frame.
Anunciation added another two-run double as part of a four-run sixth inning, as Pacific put the game away, 9-3.
Davis, who allowed nine runs on 12 hits while striking out five and walking two, took the loss for the Gauchos. The sophomore falls to 13-8 on the season.
Natalie King picked up the victory for the Tigers, improving to 13-7.
