Caitlin Benyi, a three-time All-American at UCLA, joins UCSB for her second season as an assistant coach.
During her first season with the Gauchos, Benyi helped guide the Gauchos to a 30-24 overall record and a second-place finish in the Big West Conference. In 2009, the Gauchos once again posted a winning record (26-25) and took fourth in the competitive Big West.
Additionally, she helped coach one of the most productive offenses in both the conference and program history as UCSB set scool records for records for single season batting average (.291), runs (243), hits (425), home runs (38), total bases (625) and RBI (216).
As a four-year starter with the UCLA softball team, Benyi earned three-consecutive NFCA All-American honors in addition to helping the Bruins to back-to-back national titles in 2003 and 2004. The second baseman was also the NCAA Division I homerun leader during the 2004 season with a total of 24 homers on the year.
In addition to her four years with the Bruins, Benyi spent part of 2003 and 2004 playing with the USA Elite team and was a member of the silver medal winning Junior Olympic team at the 2003 Junior World Championships in Beijing, China. She also spent the 2006-07 season playing with the Akron Racers, a National Pro Fastpitch team.
Following her impressive playing career, she stayed with the Bruins as the undergraduate assistant coach for the 2006-07 season. Her job responsibilities included assisting with offensive and defensive development and assisting with administrative duties such as recruiting, travel and scheduling, community service, academics and fundraising.
Benyi has also served as the Director of Operations of BRUWIN Enterprises and has conducted private softball lessons. She graduated from UCLA in June of 2007 with a BA in history.
