Sophomore midfielder Krystal Sandza, who scored 25 goals and assisted on eight others for a total of 58 points, and sophomore forward Jennifer Borcich, who had 17 goals and seven assists for 41 points, were each selected to the 2002 National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-West Regions, it was announced today.
Sandza, the 2002 Big West Offensive Player of the Year, was chosen Second Team All-West Region. She led the league in goals scored and points. In addition, Sandza had numerous multi-goal games, including a UCSB record five-goal performance in a win at Air Force, and two three-goal hat tricks. She is a two-time First Team All-Big West selection.
Borcich, the 2001 Big West Offensive Player of the Year, was chosen Third Team All-West Region. She was second in the league in goals scored and points after leading the Big West in both categories as a freshman. She closed the season by scoring goals in eight of the final nine matches, including a three-goal hat trick in a win at Idaho. She too is a two-time First Team All-Big West selection.
The Sandza-Borcich helped UCSB to a 13-5-2 record this season and a second-place finish in the Big West.
