Freshman forward Jen Borcich was named Big West Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, as well as First Team All-Big West, the league announced today.
Borcich, who missed the season's final match after breaking her forearm early in the first half of a November 4 match against Cal State Fullerton, scored 11 goals, seven assists and 29 points on the season. She led the league in all three categories and helped to lead UCSB to its best season since 1993. Borcich had four game-winning goals as the Gauchos went 11-7-1 overall and 7-2 in the Big West. In fact, after an 0-3 start, UCSB went 11-4-1.
Borcich was joined on the All-Big West First Team by another freshman, midfielder Krystal Sandza. Sandza ranked second on the team in scoring with seven goals, three assists and 17 points. Junior midfielder Jen Codington (three goals, five assists and 11 points) was named Second Team All-Big West.
Additionally, three more Gauchos (Freshman forward Erin Griswold, junior defender Katie Wilson and senior goalkeeper Mary Gleason) were named honorable mention all-league.
