Gauchos Announce Signing of Six High School Players for 2004 Season

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara women's soccer program has signed six players to National Letters of Intent, head coach Paul Stumpf announced this week.

The Gauchos, coming off of a second-place finish in the Big West Conference in 2003, inked three defenders, two forward-defender combos, one goalkeeper and a central midfielder.

Catherine Burson - Goalkeeper - Poway High School - Poway, Calif.
Catherine Burson is from Poway High School...As a senior, she posted 16 shutouts and led Poway to the Palomar League Championships...She became the first goalkeeper in Palomar League history to not allow a goal during the entire league season...In a CIF quarterfinal game against Torrey Pines, Burson stopped a pair of penalty kicks and scored one to give Poway the victory...Selected Palomar League Player of the Year by the North County Times...Also selected All-North County and All-Palomar League by the North County Times...She was selected First Team All-CIF and All-Section by the San Diego Union Tribune...Burson was also selected to the San Diego Union Tribune's All-Academic Team as a senior...At the club level, she played for the Laguna Hills Eclipse U-17 Premier.

Katie Dwyer - Defender - Righetti (Santa Maria) High School - Orcutt, Calif.
Katie Dwyer, out of Santa Maria's Righetti High School, was a stopper and a sweeper...She was a two-time First Team All-Pac 5 League...As a senior, Dwyer was selected her league's Player of the Year and she was a two-time best Defensive Player honoree...A four-year Scholar Athlete, Dwyer was a four-year member of Righetti's Honor Roll...At the club level, se played for FC Santa Barbara.

Jessie Steinberg - Defender - Granada Hills High School - Northridge, Calif.
Jessie Steinberg preps at Granada Hills Charter High School...As a defender, she played stopper and sweeper...Scored ten career goals and 20 assists in four years from her defensive spot...A four-time First Team All-West Valley League and All-Los Angeles City selection...In fact, 2001, she became the first freshman in history to be selected First Team All-Los Angeles City...A four-year member of the Honor Roll...On the club level, Steinberg played for West Valley Samba.

Kathleen Prieto - Defender - Lancaster High School - Lancaster, Calif.
Kathleen Prieto is a product of Lancaster High School...Scored 43 career goals in her career as a defender and midfielder...A three-time First Team All-Golden League choice, Prieto was also named her team's MVP three times and Rookie of the Year once...She was a four-year member of the Principal's Honor Roll at Lancaster HS...She will also graduate as her school's Valedictorian...Played for West Valley Samba at the club level.

Sally Domitrovich - Forward/Defender - Beyer High School - Modesto, Calif.
Sally Domitrovich will come to UCSB after a career at Beyer High School...Helped lead Beyer HS to a pair of Central California Conference championships and one CIF Section title...A First Team All-Central California Conference choice as a sweeper...Domitrovich was also selected to the Modesto Bee All-District Team following her junior season...A two-year team captain...While she played defender at the prep level, she could play some forward at UCSB...Played for Elk Grove United at the club level.

Nicole Remmenga - Midfield - Westlake High School - Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Nicole Remmenga will come to UCSB after a decorated career at Westlake High School...Played both midfield and stopper at Westlake HS...Twice selected All-CIF and All-Ventura County...A three-time First Team All-Marmonte League honoree and following her senior campaign, Remmenga was chosen the Marmonte League Defensive MVP...Also following her senior year, she was selected to the Los Angeles Daily News All-Area Team...Made the Girl's Soccer Showcase All-Star Team as a senior...In her four years, Westlake HS went 69-6-9, including 21-0-1 in her junior year...Led her team to a CIF title as a junior...Remmenga's team went 49-1-2 in Marmonte League games during her career, winning all four league crowns...Scored 30 goals and 32 assists in her four-year career...Played for the West Valley Samba at the club level.
