Gauchos Announce 2006 Elite Camp Dates

March 7, 2006

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC - Santa Barbara Women's Soccer coaching staff is excited to announce the dates for their Elite Camp this coming summer. The first week is July 10-14 followed by July 17-21 for the second week. The Elite Camp is directed at those 14-18 year old competitive soccer players who are striving to play in college. Past camp members consist of many Division I players, for example, six of our current Freshman class were Elite Campers. This provides us with a great opportunity to recruit potential UCSB student athletes.

Every session is directed by the UC Santa Barbara coaching staff, as well as visiting college coaches with current Gaucho players serving as demonstrators and counselors. Head Coach Paul Stumpf is entering his eighth season as the Gaucho's head coach. In his seven years at the helm, Stumpf has guided the Gauchos to 73 victories. In 2004 the Gauchos ended the regular season as Big West Champions. Stumpf played collegiately at San Diego State University and followed that by playing with San Diego Nomads in the Western Soccer Alliance. Coach Stumpf holds a National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Camp Director and Associate Head Coach Chugger Adair holds a USSF "A" License and is entering his third season on the Gaucho coaching staff. As a player and coach Chugger brings a diverse and knowledgeable background to the game. As a player he has competed at the highest levels of Division 1 college soccer and professionally as well in America and Europe. As a coach Chugger has experience as a youth club coach, high school coach, Division 1 coach and he served as an assistant coach with the San Diego Spirit of the WUSA.

The Elite Camp has an excellent coach to player ratio and includes technical and tactical training sessions. There is also daily-specialized goalkeeper training as well as 1 beach session. The night sessions are all about playing as we run two different tournament formats throughout the week. Evening meetings will include video sessions and discussion topics including college-recruiting information. Overnight campers will have the opportunity to experience college life in the beautiful setting of UC Santa Barbara. For more detailed information please visit our website at www.ucsbgauchos.com or contact our Camp Director Chugger Adair via email at womens.soccer@athletics.ucsb.edu or by phone, 805-893-5702. Reserve your spot now; spaces are filing up quickly and last year both weeks sold out.
