Gauchos Battle Pacific to Scoreless Tie, Host UC Davis in Home Finale Sunday

Oct. 26, 2007

Box Score

STOCKTON, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara and the University of the Pacific played 110 minutes on Friday night and nothing was decided. The Gauchos and Tigers battled to a 0-0 tie in double-overtime, the same result that they produced in 2006.

The match was played evenly. UCSB finished with 18 shots while Pacific had 16. Senior goalkeeper Katie Wright was outstanding as she came-up with eight saves, her second highest total of the season.

The Gauchos were on the offensive for much of the night, but they were whistled for five offsides calls and those calls served to derail their offensive effort.

UCSB has struggled to score recently. After going scoreless for 110 minutes on Friday night, the Gauchos have now failed to score in more than 360 minutes of play. On the other hand, Santa Barbara's defense has been outstanding, allowing just four goals in the last six matches.

Freshman Kailyn Kugler led the Gauchos with five shots, two of which were on goal.

The tie gives UCSB a 5-8-4 record overall and a 2-2-1 mark in league play. The Gauchos now have seven points in the conference standings. Pacific is now 6-6-4 overall and 1-3-2 in league with five points.

The Gauchos will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 28 when they host UC Davis in their final home match of the 2007 season. The UCSB-UC Davis showdown will kick-off at 12:00 p.m.
