STOCKTON, Calif. -
On Sunday night, UC Santa Barbara forward Jennifer Borcich scored a goal in the 88th-minute to help her team post a 2-2 tie with the Big West Conference's best team, Cal Poly. On Friday night, Borcich didn't wait as long, scoring at the 3:33 mark in a match at Pacific, to help the Gauchos to a 2-0 win over the Tigers snapping a six-match winless string.
Borcich's goal was her eighth of the season, one fewer than team-leader Krystal Sandza, and it was also the 37th of her career, the fifth most in school history.
While Pacific was able to compile 14 shots on UCSB, Gaucho goalkeeper Jamie Considine posted four saves, recording her sixth shutout of the season.
Santa Barbara freshman midfielder Morgan Tanner added an insurance goal in the 64th-minute to give her team its 2-0 lead and ultimately a 2-0 victory.
With the key Big West road win, UCSB is now 7-5-4 overall and 2-2-2 in Big West play. The Tigers drop to 4-10-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the league. The Gauchos will play another important Big West match on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Cal State Northridge for a 2:30 p.m. outing at Matador Field.
