Women's Soccer Blanked At Cal State Northrige, 2-0

Northridge, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Northridge women's soccer teams played a scoreless first half on Sunday night, but the Matadors tallied a pair of goals in the second-half to record a 2-0 victory.

Matadors Cindy Mallett and Lisa Gouveia scored the goals. Mallett's came first, at the 51:38 mark. Her goal was assisted by Jenny Graham and Melissa Cleal. Gouveia's goal came at the 72:32 mark, it was assisted by Shannon Clissold.

The Matadors outshot the Gauchos 12-11. UCSB goalkeeper Mary Gleason came up with six saves. Offensively, the Gauchos were paced by Alix Richey, who had three shots on goal, and Molly Martin who had a pair. The Team's leading scorer, Jen Borcich, did not have a shot.

The loss drops UCSB to 5-6-1 overall, and 1-1 in the Big West Conference. The Gauchos return home on Friday, Ocotober 19, to host Utah State in a match scheduled for 8:00 p.m. The match against Utah State will be the second of a doubleheader with the men's team, and most likely will not kickoff untill about 8:15. The Gauchos will also host Idaho on Sunday, October 21, at 1:00 p.m.
