IRVINE, Calif. -
The UC Santa Barbara women's soccer team played two overtime matches on this weekend's road trip to Long Beach State and UC Irvine. Today's overtime contest with UCI, however, had a slightly better ending.
The Gauchos and Anteaters each scored first half goals and then went scoreless the rest of the match, finishing in a 1-1 deadlock.
UCI's Hayley McNallan scored off a rebound of a Britney Webster shot, giving her team a 1-0 lead just 13:49 into the match.
UCSB tied the score in the 38th-minute when freshman Darci Gwartz scored off of an assist from junior Molly Martin. Neither team scored again.
While the Gauchos outshot the Anteaters, there weren't many shots from either team. UCSB finished wiht 11 in the overtime affair and UCI had eight. Anteater goalkeeper Marissa Welliver finished with six saves and UCSB's Jamie Considine had two.
With the tie, Santa Barbara is now 6-3-3 on the season, 1-1-1 in Big West play. The Gauchos will return to action on Thursday, October 9, when they host fifth-ranked Pepperdine in a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match at Harder Stadium.
