SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The start of UC Santa Barbara's Wednesday night soccer match against fourth-ranked UCLA was delayed by an hour because the visitor's bus was stuck in traffic. When the Bruins did arrive in Santa Barbara, they were ready to play and it showed in a 5-0 victory over the Gauchos.
UCLA did its first damage at 12:50 in the first half when Iris Mora took a cross from Kara Lang and fired a shot that was blocked by a UCSB defender. Mora, however, pounced on the rebound and blasted a shot past goalkeeper Jamie Considine to give her team a 1-0 lead.
The Bruins made it 2-0 at 25:49 when Christina DeMartino slid a perfect pass from right to left across the box to Danesha Adams. Without breaking stride, Adams one-timed a left-footed shot inside the left post for her eighth goal of the season.
UCLA used a little luck to complete its first half scoring. At 41:33, defender Mary Castelanelli drover up the left sideline. Castelanelli cracked a powerful cross from about 25 yards out towards the far post. The blast was intended as a pass, but it went into the upper-right corner of the goal and all Castelanelli could do was shrug.
The Bruins scored two more in the second half. DeMartino dribbled the ball near the left side at the top of the box. She sidled right to left and slid a shot through traffic and just inside the left post. Stephanie Kron completed the scoring with an unassisted goal from just above the box straightaway at 74:39. The final goal came against UCSB's second goalkeeper, Kelly Soler.
UCLA dominated the match, outshooting the Gauchos 19-3. In fact, UCSB did not even take a shot until Nicole Remmenga attempted one in the 53rd minute. Freshman Genelle Ives had two of UCSB's three shots. Considine had four saves for UCSB, Soler had one.

UCLA is now 9-1-0 on the season and it has outscored its opponents 24-3. The Gauchos have lost three in a row, all to Pac Ten opponents, and are now 5-6-0. UCSB returns home on Friday, Sept. 30, to host UC Davis in a 7:00 p.m. match.
