Ives Scores Pair as Gauchos Post Easy Exhibition Win Over Westmont, 3-0

Aug. 16, 2008

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Junior forward Genelle Ives scored two goals and UC Santa Barbara outshot visiting Westmont College 28-3 in a 3-0 exhibition victory for the Gauchos.

Ives, who redshirted the 2007 season with a knee injury, scored her first goal at the 52:02 mark, giving UCSB a 2-0 lead. She took a through-ball from sophomore midfielder Jacqui Simon and tucked it into the near post. Her second goal came at 65:56 when she took a perfect cross from sophomore transfer Kylie McDonald and headed a shot past Warrior goalkeeper Natalie Johnston, making the score 3-0, which is how it remained.

Santa Barbara scored its first goal of the match at 14:55 when Simon took a feed from senior midfielder Sami Svrcek and bounced one toward Westmont's starting goalkeeper Roxanne Love, who misplayed it, putting the Gauchos in front, 1-0.

UCSB dominated the entire match, as reflected by its 28-3 advantage in shots. The Warriors had one shot early in the first half, but then did not get credit for another until the final 15 minutes. Senior forward Michelle Russell led the Gauchos with seven shots, five of which were on-frame.

Santa Barbara used 25 players in the scrimmage, including 12 newcomers.

UCSB will kick-off the regular season on Friday, Aug. 22, when it travels to Reno, Nev., to take on the University of Nevada in a 7:00 p.m. match against.
