2004 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Information:

The NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Selection Committee announced that UC Santa Barbara will serve as one of 16 host sites for the first and second rounds of the 2004 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship.

Competition will take place in the Thunderdome on Saturday, March 20 and Monday, March 22, 2004. Start times for first and second round games will be announced after the NCAA Tournament field and pairings are unveiled on Sunday, March 14. If UCSB qualifies for the NCAA Tournament, it will host three other schools on its home court in early round action of the 64-team event.

"As a program we are proud and excited about the opportunity to once again host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament," Gaucho head coach Mark French said. "I'm proud that the NCAA views our university and community as a venue worthy of entrusting this important event to. Of course, I am excited about the prospect of playing on our home court in March."

Of the 16 arenas chosen to host the first two rounds of the 2004 tourney, the Thunderdome is the smallest with a capacity of 6,000. In addition, Santa Barbara is the only site located in the Pacific Time Zone. This will mark the fourth time the Thunderdome has played host to the early rounds of the NCAA Tournament; UCSB last hosted in 2000.
