Position:
Assistant Coach

Returning for her third season as a UCSB assistant coach, and fifth with the program overall, is April Foster. Santa Barbara's starting point guard during the 2003-04 season, Foster is now in charge of mentoring the team's backcourt players, helping orchestrate the offense, and coordinating the team's speed, agility, and quickness training. She also oversees the male scout squad and student managers.

In her only season as a Gaucho, Foster (maiden name McDivitt) ranked fourth in the Big West Conference at 4.4 assists per game, while averaging 8.3 points and 3.2 rebounds. In her final game as a collegian, the Connersville, Ind. native poured in a career-high 20 points as UCSB lost a narrow 63-55 decision to eventual national champion Connecticut in the NCAA East Regional Semifinals.

Foster redshirted the 2002-03 campaign with the Gauchos following three years at the University of Tennessee, helping the Lady Vols reach the NCAA Final Four in both 2000 and 2002. While at Tennessee, Foster was a two-time Southeastern Conference All-Academic honoree, and earned similar acclaim from the Big West in 2003-04.

In addition to her playing experience, the 1999 Miss Indiana Basketball selection has served as an instructor at youth summer camps around the country for the past six years, including UCSB's Elite Camp. She also conducted private lessons for serious players aged 11 through 18, and completed an internship with Santa Barbara-based Titan Sports Performance.

Foster graduated from UCSB in 2004 with a B.A. in psychology, shortly after earning a free agent contract with the WNBA's New York Liberty. She spent the 2005 preseason as a member of the Minnesota Lynx, where she was joined by former Gaucho teammate Kristen Mann. April married Brent Foster this past August and the couple resides in Santa Barbara.
