SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
UCSB junior defender Brian Alexander, who finished the 2003 season second in the nation with 70 goals, was selected Third Team All-American by the American Water Polo Coaches Association it was announced this week.
Alexander, who was easily UCSB's leading scorer, became the school's 56th All-American. He was the eighth player in Gaucho history to record 70 or more goals in a season and the first since 1994. In addition to his offensive prowess, Alexander was UCSB's top defender and, in fact, one of the top defenders in the nation.
With his 70 goals as a junior, Alexander now has 85 in his Gaucho career, ranking 23rd all-time. He helped lead UCSB to 14 wins on the year, the most in eight seasons.
Last summer, Alexander led the USA Junior National Team in scoring at the 12th FINA Junior World Championships in Naples, Italy. He also played for the U.S. National "B" Team in the U.S. Cup World Challenge at Stanford in the spring of 2003.
Alexander is a psychology major at UCSB.
