The Gaucho Record
With two more losses last weekend to No. 1 UCLA and No. 5 UC Irvine, the Gauchos fall to 17-10 overall and 2-5 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play entering this weekend. The two losses mark the third and fourth consecutive losses for the Gauchos over the last two weeks. Over the skid, the Gauchos have been outscored by a 47-29 mark. In addition, UC Santa Barbara has been shut out in seven of the nineteen periods played.
The Save King
Despite four consecutive losses for the Gauchos, junior goalkeeper Jon Bonafede continues to rank first in the MPSF in saves per match with 10.44. The second closest keeper in saves per match is Long Beach's Thomas Onysko who averages 8.30. The Alta Loma native also leads the MPSF in total saves with 227.
Riding the Upset "Waves"
Pepperdine does not play like its No. 11 rank portrays them to play. The Waves are capable of defeating almost any team on any given day. Last week Pepperdine defeated then No. 8 UCSD 7-5 before falling to third-ranked USC 9-6 in a well-fought match on Saturday. The Waves then hit the water on Wednesday and dominated No. 6 Loyola Marymount by a score of 7-3. Grant Miller leads the Waves' offensive attack with 44 goals on the season. Freshman Robbie Miller is Pepperdine's top goalkeeper with 109 saves on the season.
