The Gaucho Record
The Gauchos enter the weekend with a 17-6 record overall, and a 2-1 record in MPSF play. Last weekend the No. 4 Gauchos split on the road, falling to third-ranked USC on Saturday, 7-3, and defeating No. 6 Loyola Marymount 6-3 on Sunday in non-conference play. The loss to USC marked the second time this season that the Trojans snapped a Gaucho win streak of five or more games.
Lights Out Goalkeeper
In last Sunday's match against Loyola Marymount, goalkeeper Jon Bonafede recorded three shutout quarters and tallied nine saves. Bonafede also recorded four saves in the Gaucho loss to USC on Saturday to give him 173 on the season. The junior continues to put up excellent numbers and averages 9.75 saves per game, which is tops amongst all goalies in the MPSF.
It Worked For Manny
Just like Manny Ramirez of the Boston Red Sox rode a 17-game hit streak to take the MVP award in the World Series, Gaucho Brian Alexander is also riding a streak to help UCSB to victory. With one goal against USC on Saturday and two against Loyola on Sunday, Alexander has now scored in 12 consecutive matches. Over the twelve game streak, Alexander has recorded 24 of his team leading 48 goals. In addition, Alexander has two or more goals in seven of the twelve matches.
The 49ers and Cardinal
No. 9 Long Beach State enters Saturday's match with an overall record of 11-7 and is 2-1 in MPSF play. Long Beach State is led by their leading goal scorer, Brett McCleave, who has 32 goals coming in to the match. Second-ranked Stanford enters the weekend toting a 15-2 overall record, and a 3-0 record in MPSF play. This weekend should prove to be a strenuous one for the Cardinal, playing No. 1 UCLA on Saturday and then visiting Campus Pool to take on the Gauchos on Sunday.
