Alexander Scores Four Goals, But Gauchos Drop 10-7 MPSF Tournament Decision to Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Fifth-seeded Long Beach State defeated eighth-seeded UC Santa Barbara 10-7 in second round action of the MPSF Championships Saturday afternoon. Long Beach improved their record to 15-14, while the Gauchos fell to 13-17 on the year.

UCSB opened up the game with a goal by Brian Alexander, but LBSU would score three unanswered goals to lead 3-1 with 2:08 remaining in the quarter. Alexander would score another goal to bring the game within one, 3-2, to end the quarter.

The 49ers pushed their lead to 5-2 after goals by Jason Palda and Riley Brady in the second quarter. UCSB's Alexander picked up two more goals to end the second quarter with Long Beach up by two, 6-4.

Santa Barbara's Joe Ferguson scored a goal with 5:03 remaining in the third to bring the game within one, 6-5, but Long Beach State would go on a 4-0 run to put the game away (10-5) after double goals by Nathan Allard and Erik Geoffrey with 3:54 left to play. UCSB would score two more goals before the end of the game, but it was not enough as Long Beach went on to win 10-7.
