Nine goals in the second half by the fifth-ranked Bruins (11-4) broke a 3-3 tie and lifted UCLA to a 12-6 MPSF victory over UC Santa Barbara (11-9) at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center.

The Gauchos started the contest strong with Andrew Schoneberger finding the back of the net twice in the first period to give UCSB a 2-1 lead after the first frame. UCSB would increase its lead to two goals in the second period when Steve Traverso scored to make the score 3-1 with 4:50 left in the half. Back-10-back goals from Brett Ormsby would even the score and send the teams to halftime knotted up at 3-3.

Two counterattack goals from Peter Belden and Josh Hewko opened up the second half of play for the Bruins and started a five-goal third period in which UCLA pulled away from the Gauchos. Orsmby would finish his hat trick in the third frame when he scored an extra-man goal with 2:29 left in the period. Ted Peck would also find the back of the net with 1:26 remaining to put UCLA ahead 8-5 heading into the final quarter.

Three unanswered Bruin goals started the fourth period with David Pietsch, John Blanchette and Peck each scoring in the first three minutes of action. John Briscoe wrapped up the Bruin scoring with 20 seconds left to give UCLA the 12-6 victory.
