Salutations fellow Santa Barbarians and UCSB supporters around the world. I write to you from the eclipse, the time between preseason and season. It is a time to reflect and reset. The 2008 strain of Gaucho athletes rises with the new sun, then spikes. This is my last season to wear "Santa Barbara" on my jersey. As a lifelong resident of Santa Barbara I have never represented anything but our city and its people in athletic competition. With each new heartbeat the essence of every coach, teammate, disciple, friend, family, and love is channeled, focused, molded, and finally incorporated into who we are as individuals and athletes. Each season is a new sequence in the brilliant cascade of life - memories, emotion, commitment. So come cheer us on in Rob Gym. After all, you're playing.
