Sophomore Evan Patak led the Gauchos to a convincing 3-1 upset victory over
fifth-ranked Long Beach State last weekend, registering a team season-high
31 kills to give UCSB the victory in its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation
conference-opener. The All-American outside hitter hit .462 in the
four-game match and also had five digs and a pair of blocks, helping Santa
Barbara avenge its season-opening loss to the 49ers.
