Hawaii Outlasts Gauchos in MPSF Opener, 3-1

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Jose Delgado had 20 kills and hit .316 to lead Hawai'i to a 31-33, 30-25, 30-25, 30-27 win over UC Santa Barbara Thursday night.

The Warriors, now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, hit .325 as a team. Delano Thomas also contributed to the win with 14 kills and a .375 hitting percentage. Matt Bender aided the Warriors both offensively and defensively with 14 kills and 11 digs. Libero Alfred Reft accumulated 12 digs. Setter Brian Beckwith had 58 assists and set .518 overall for the match.

Outside hitter Evan Patak had 20 kills and hit .286 to lead the Gauchos throughout the match. UCSB also received major contributions from Justin Adams, who had five blocks and 13 kills while hitting .500, and Nate Wack with ten kills and three blocks. Michael Kennedy had eight kills and a team-high eight blocks.

UCSB, now 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the MPSF, will face Hawaiii again Friday night in Robertson Gym at 7:00 pm.
