No. 2 seed Long Beach State downed No. 1 seed and defending tournament champion UCLA in four games to claim the tournament crown at the 42nd Annual UCSB/Elephant Bar Collegiate Invitational. The 49ers were lead by the play of tourney most valuable player Tyler Hildebrand at setter with 47 assists, eight digs and six block assists in the championship match against the Bruins. Cal State Northridge claimed third topping tournament host UC Santa Barbara 3-0, while UC Irvine finished fifth with a 3-0 sweep of USC. Pacific opened the day's events with a 3-1 triumph over Stanford to take the seventh spot. Hildebrand was joined by teammates Robert Tarr and Teddy Liles on the All-Tournament team. UCLA had two players selected to the squad with Nick Scheftic and Paul George garnering the honors, with UC Santa Barbara's Evan Patak and Cal State Northridge's Dan Rhodes rounding out the team.
