A former player at UCSB, Tyson Norton returns to the Gauchos for his first season as an assistant coach under Rick McLaughlin.

After transferring to Santa Barbara from Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Calif., Norton played two seasons at libero for Ken Preston. Although he saw action in just one match in 2006, Norton went on to play in 28 of UCSB's 32 matches in 2007. In 81 sets, he amassed 98 digs, good for a 1.21 digs per set average. Norton posted a reception percentage of .959 with just 13 errors in 318 receptions. He helped the Gauchos record an impressive 20-12 record and advance to the semifinals of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament.

During his two seasons at Golden West, Norton was an all-state selection twice and a two-time Rustler of the Year honoree.

A 2002 graduate of Santiago High School in Corona, Calif., Norton was an All-CIF and All-Mountain View League volleyball player for the Sharks.

A native of Corona, Norton graduated from UCSB with a degree in communication.
