A 2007 graduate of Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach, Calif....Played four years at outside hitter under head coach Steve Conti...Named First Team All-CIF and First Team All-Pacific Coast League in 2006 and 2007...Captained the Sea Kings in 2006 and 2007...Corona del Mar won CIF titles in 2005 and 2007...Team won Pacific Coast League championships all four years Nielsen played...Also played baseball and was a member of the undefeated crew team at Corona del Mar.

Played for Balboa Bay Volleyball Club and head coach Travis Turner...Team won Junior Olympic bronze medals in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
