After a solid playing career at UCSB that ended in 2007 when he graduated, Bart Kowalski returns to the Gauchos as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2008 season.
Kowalski played setter at UCSB from 2003-07, with 2006 serving as his redshirt year. He amassed 2,910 career assists, which is fifth on UCSB's all-time list.
As the starting setter in 2007, Kowalski racked up 1,070 helpers, the highest total of any season during his career. He garnered All-MPSF Honorable Mention acclaim as he finished the year ranked seventh in the league with 11.93 assists per game in conference matches.
Kowalski is a 2002 graduate of Royal High School in Simi Valley, Calif., where he was a two-time First Team All-CIF selection. As a senior, he was named Royal's Scholar-Athlete of the Year and served as class valedictorian.
Kowalski played club ball for Southern California Volleyball Club, which won a silver medal at the 2001 Junior Olympics and a bronze medal at the 2002 Junior Olympics.
Born in Wejherowo, Poland, Kowalski was named to the Dean's List at UCSB in 2006. He graduated with a degree in computer engineering.
