AUSTIN, Texas - Gaucho sophomore Tetlo Emmen finished 4th in his preliminary heat of the 800m at the NCAA National Championship on Thursday night in Austin, Texas. Emmen ran a personal best 1:48.75, knocking almost a full second off his previous best of 1:49.72.

Emmen's time was the third best in Gaucho history and 15th overall out of the 27 runners in the three preliminary heats. Emmen had the slowest seasonal best of the 27 athletes in the 800m going into the meet. The last time to qualify for the nine man final was 1:48.03.

Junior Ben Armel finished a disappointing ninth in his heat with a time of 1:52.88. Armel still has an opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Trials in the 800m, based on his season best of 1:48.00.

Senior Chris White concluded an outstanding distance career at UCSB with a 21st place finish in the 10,000m final on Thursday night. White covered the 6.2 mile distance in 31:23.39 under the warm and humid conditions at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

White's final season at UCSB left him at #2 All-time in the 10,000m, #3 All-time in the 3,000m, and #4 All-time in the 5,000m. White also won the Big West Championship at 5,000m and set the Big West Challenge Cup Meet record to win the 3,000m in 2004. White, a walk-on to UCSB from Half Moon Bay was also a key member of the NCAA National Championship squad that finished 17th in 2001, the first time a Gaucho team had qualified for the national meet in cross country.
