Head Coach Marty Davis Announces Signing of JuCo Transfer Jack Hui to National Letter of Intent

June 26, 2006

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara men's tennis Head Coach Marty Davis announced the signing of decorated junior college transfer Jack Hui to a national letter of intent today.

Hui, a native of Hong Kong, comes to Santa Barbara from the College of the Desert (Palm Desert) where he won the 2006 California Community College singles title and placed second in doubles. He also helped COD capture the state team title for the eighth time in the past nine seasons, and was rewarded with Community College All-American status in both singles and doubles.

As a freshman in 2004-05, Hui also garnered All-America honors in singles after posting a 32-2 record the No. 1 spot. That year, Hui advanced to the men's Semifinals of the California Community College State Championships and was named the Foothill Schools Conference Player of the Year.

"Jack is an aggressive, athletic player with a great serve and tons of talent," Davis said. "We are extremely excited about this addition to our team."

Davis said Hui is also an extremely skilled student who is interested in economics and accounting and that he should adjust to the academics at UCSB with ease. Davis also expects Hui to transition to the Division I game smoothly as well.

"I believe he can be an impact player in the Big West immediately. Expect him to play No. 1 doubles and high in the singles line-up," Davis said.

Hui had success on the Central Coast in 2005 when he advanced to the Ojai Invitational Semifinals in the Community College Division, one of the premier tournaments in the west. Hui has also taken home titles in the Hyogo International Junior Tournament and the Vietnam International Junior Championships.

Hui achieved a career-high Junior World Singles Ranking of No. 130 in January of 2002 and a ranking of No. 57 in doubles in January of 2003. In Hong Kong, Hui received the top-ranking in the Boys' 18U in 2000.
