Fresno, CA - The UCSB men's tennis team continued tournament play this weekend, winning matches at the All-American Tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma and the Bulldog Classic in Fresno, California.

After being sidelined for two years with a broken wrist, knee troubles and a separated shoulder that needed surgical repair, a rejuvenated Scott Hohenstein impressed the Gaucho tennis world, eliminating five straight opponents to take home the Flight "C" title at the Bulldog Classic.

"Winning the Flight `C' Championship was a huge bonus for {Hohenstein} considering the extent of his past injuries," head coach Marty Davis exclaimed. "His performance here proves that he's more than just a doubles specialist."

The native out of Anaheim Hills, CA roared into the semi-final round defeating freshman teammate Andy Benson 6-1, 6-4 to move on to the championship match. In the final round, Hohenstein downed third-ranked Gabe Kanzelmeyer out of Nevada to win his first career intercollegiate tournament.

New Gauchos, Evan Jurgensen and Davis Nevenberg, also competed in tournament play, continuing their hot streak into the later rounds. Second ranked Nerenberg defeated Cal's Zach Gilbert in the semi-final round before falling to Kanzelmeyer. Alex Gushner topped UC Davis's Tyler Lee in the back draw of the Bulldog Classic "B" draw.

In the All-American Championships, top Gaucho returnees Alex Konigsfeldt and Max Taylor represented the UCSB men well, winning first round matches before dropping to seeded players in the second round in Tulsa.

The Gauchos will resume fall tournament play at the ITA Regional Championships in Malibu during the week of October 15-21.
