Several Gauchos Compete in Fall Tournaments

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team has several players competing in a pair of fall tournament this weekend. Eight players are playing at the Bulldog Classic in Fresno, Calif., while two are at the D'Novo All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.

Competing in the qualifying round at the All-American Championships, Max Taylor and Alex Konigsfeldt each posted victories. Taylor, a senior, defeated Stephen Shao of Marquette, 6-2, 6-3, and will play Emanuel Brighiu of TCU in the next round. Konigsfeldt, a sophomore, topped Matt Tansil of Oral Roberts, 6-1, 6-1, and he will take on Adrian Simon, also of TCU.

At the Bulldog Classic, four Gauchos are in the "C" Flight of the tournament. Andy Benson defeated Michael Carreno of San Francisco, 6-7, 6-2, 6-1. Scott Hohenstein swept Torin Ching of San Francisco, 6-3, 6-1. Evan Jurgensen easily defeated Pacific's Ryan Van Wagner, 6-0, 6-1. Devin Neremberg is the No. 2 seed in the flight and had a bye into the round of 16.

In the "B" Flight UCSB had just one participant. Jacob Hartwig of San Francisco defeated Ggaucho Alex Gushner, 7-6, 6-1.

In the "A" Flight, Jay Wong of Santa Clara edged sophomore Taylor Chavez Goggin, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. San Diego State's Matt Tosches topped freshman Nick Caledonia, 6-0, 1-6, 7-5. The one Gaucho winner in the flight was junior Josh Finkelstein who defeated Cal Poly's Alexander Sonnesson, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
