SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The No. 74 ranked UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team edged UC San Diego 4-3 today at UCSB's RecCen Courts. The Gauchos took the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and 2 doubles. The team's split the singles matches with the Gauchos winning at No. 2, 4 and 5 singles.
Mirco Schwindt led the charge for the Gauchos, defeating UCSD's Bryan Swatt 6-2, 7-5. Alex Anselme defeated Emil Novak 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles while Nicholas Brotman defeated Blake Wilson-Hayden 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot.
The Gauchos move to 11-8 on the season while the Tritons fall to 15-5. UCSD is ranked No. 13 in the NCAA Division II National Rankings.
The Gauchos host the University of San Diego Saturday in the final regular season dual match of 2003. The match begins at 1 p.m. at UCSB's RecCen Courts.
