April 5, 2008

UC Santa Barbara, Calif. - A day after falling to 63rd-ranked Fresno State, the 66th-ranked UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team came thundering back to stomp the reeling Aggies at the UCSB Recreational Center Courts on Saturday afternoon.

In doubles play, the Gauchos swept the doubles point with relative ease. Sophomore Philip Therp and senior Jack Hui posted a solid win at the No. 1 slot to propel UCSB into a 1-0 lead.

The lead extended to a 3-0 count after Therp and Hejazi quickly dispatched their opponents at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots respectively. At the No. 3 slot, Jack Hui defeated Nick Lopez, 6-2, 6-4. The Gauchos never looked back as Max Taylor and Taylor Chavez Goggin also posted straight set victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots to seal their third Big West victory of the year (3-1 Big West). The only loss for UCSB came at the No. 4 slot where Dan Elefant of UC Davis outlasted Alex Konigsfeldt 7-5, 3-6, (10-5). With the win the Gauchos improve to 10-6 on the season.

UCSB plays there final home match of the season and celebrates senior day tomorrow in a noon match against conference rival University of Pacific.
