Box Score

Santa Barbara, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara men's soccer team played its final home match on Sunday evening, and it was a close one.

Senior Jaime Ambriz, playing his final match at Harder Stadium, flashed up the middle in the 65th-minute, and struck a header off of a cross from freshman defender Tony Lochhead, planting it into the depth of the net, for the only goal, as UCSB defeated UC Riverside 1-0 in a Big West soccer match. The victory keeps the Gauchos in contention for the Big West Championship.

Ambriz' goal was the only score in a match that saw UCSB outshoot its opponent by an 18-3 margin. Ambriz had five shots, including several of the dangerous variety. Gaucho goalkeeper Dan Kennedy produced yet another shutout with three saves. In fact, UCSB has won three matches in a row, all by shutout.

With the win, the Gauchos are now 9-4-3 overall, and 5-1-1 in Big West play. UC Riverside drops to 0-14-1 overall, 0-7-0 in league play. UCSB travels to Cal Poly on Friday, November 9, to take on the Mustangs in a 7:00 p.m. Big West match.
