Santa Barbara, Calif.-

UCSB is living on the edge, one bad meet and their postseason hopes are erased. The pressure seems to be bringing out the best in the men's gymnastics team as they posted their second highest team score of the season (208.025), along the way defeating #10 Temple, arch rival Air Force and the University of Washington.

For the first time in 6 meets Santa Barbara was unable to set a new school record, but the results were still impressive. Senior Captain Michael Kelley again led the charge for UCSB. He was able to take home one 2nd place finish, and a 3rd in the meet, one on the rings with a score of 9.000 (3rd finish), and the other on the vault with a score of 9.050.

For the first time of late, Kelley did not record the team high score in the individual all-around, this time it was Junior Stephen Smith. Illustrative of how competitive and consistent this team is, Smith beat out Junior Geoffrey Howell, and Kelley, to record his personal high at 51.600. The score was good enough for 4th place in the competition; Kelley (51.100) and Howell (51.000) finished 5th and 6th. Smith also finished 3rd on the horizontal bar, with a score of 9.050.

The pressure is not off the Gauchos now that the regular season is over, in two weekends they travel to the campus of Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the MPSF Conference Finals. Their goal in that meet is to beat out the 12th ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers, which would push them up into the 12th and final spot in the National Championships.
