STOCKTON, Calif. - A trio of players shot 3-under par 213, helping UC Santa Barbara to a solid ninth-place finish at the Stockton Sports Commission Pacific Invitational at the Brookside Golf Course in Stockton, Calif., on Thursday.

Junior Tony Verna, sophomore Brian Hollenbeck and freshman Tyler Weir each shot a 3-under par 213 for the Gauchos. Weir need a 3-under par 69 in the final round to join the UCSB threesome in a tie for 25th-place. Verna shot the best round of the three, a 4-under par 68 in the second round. Hollenbeck had a 3-under par 69 in the second round for Santa Barbara.

As a team, the Gauchos shot a 10-under par 854, seven shots back of the eighth-place team, Ohio State, which shot 847, and nine shots back of UC Davis and San Jose State.

Charlotte, the top-ranked team in the nation, shot a 40-under par 824 and won the tournament on the final hole, two shots over Kansas State. Marquette finished third, 12 shots behind the first-place 49ers.

In addition to the trio knotted in 25th-place, sophomore Matt Grush shot an even-par 216 to tie for 37th-place and junior Phillip Horwith registered a 10-over par 226 to tie for 62nd.

The Pacific Invitational was UCSB's final fall competition. The Gauchos return to action on February 20, 2008, when they play in the John A. Burns Invitational in Honolulu.
