Gauchos Finish 10th at Del Walker Intercollegiate

Oct. 26, 2007

LONG BEACH, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara's golf team had a busy week. On Monday and Tuesday, the Gauchos played in the windy and sweltering conditions at Pepperdine's ClubGlove Classic. On Thursday and Friday, they played in Long Beach State's Del Walker Intercollegiate. A weary UCSB squad finished in 10th-place at the Del Walker, 9-over par.

For the second time in three fall tournaments, Santa Barbara was led by sophomore Brian Hollenbeck. The individual winner at the Bill Cullum Invitational, Hollenbeck shot a 2-under par 211 to finish in a tie for 11th at the Del Walker Intercollegiate. Fellow-sophomore Matt Grush, the team's top finisher at the ClubGlove Classic, carded a 4-over par 217 to finish tied for 35th at the Del Walker.

Rounding out the field for UCSB were junior Tony Verna, who finished at 7-over par and in a tie for 44th-place, junior Phil Horwith, who tied for 56th at 10-over par, and freshman Sean Bowman, who tied for 65th at 13-over par.

The Gauchos will wrap-up their fall schedule on Nov. 5-7 when they play at the Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif.
