RENO, Nev. - Sophomore Joe Ryon shot a 1-under par 143 to tie for 13th-place and junior Greg Wells carded an even-par 144 to tie for 18th-place, leading the UC Santa Barbara golf team to a sixth-place tie at the rain-shortened Wolf Pack Classic in Reno, Nev.

Ryon shot a 72 in his first round on Monday and then he bounced back in his second round with a 71. Wells hit 72 in each of the first two rounds.

Freshman Darren Schwartz, making his first appearance as a Gaucho, finished in a tie for 25th with a 2-over 146. Rounding out UCSB's line-up were junior Michael Feuerstein, who shot a 5-over par 149 to tie for 43rd and freshman Marty Melcher, who shot 10-over 154 to finish tied for 68th.

The coaches of the 18 schools made the decision to cancel the third and final round mid-morning on Tuesday as torrential rain pounded the Reno-Lake Tahoe area. The team champion was Lamar University, which shot a 564 to inish seven shots ahead of Oregon State. The host school, Nevada, finished third at 574.

There was a three-way tie for the individual title. Charlie Soule (Denver), Dawie VanDerWalt (Lamar) and Ryan Gilmour (Oregon State) each shot a 5-under par 139 to win by one-shot.

UCSB returns to the links on Monday, October 25, when it travels to the Barona Collegiate Cup, hosted by San Diego State, at the Barona Creek Golf Course.
