Third-Round Struggles Cost UCSB at Wolf Pack Classic

RENO, Nev. - UC Santa Barbara was in third-place after one round of the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno, Nev., but the Gauchos struggled in the final two rounds of their season-opening tournament, finishing 18th.

UCSB shot a 285 in the first round of the tournament, including Joe Ryon's 68 and Darren Schwartz's 69. In fact, in the first round at the Arrow Creek Country Club, four of the five Gauchos shot 74 or better in the first round.

Santa Barbara shot 293 in the second round, including even-par 72s by Ryon and Marty Melcher. The Gauchos were still in fifth-place after the second round.

In the third round, however, UCSB shot a 322, 18 shots worse than the next closest team, and fell to 18th-place.

Ryon finished with a 6-over-par-222 to tie for 44th-place. Melcher finished at 227, Chris Lavery at 229, Schwartz at 233 and Ryan Todey at 234.

The Gauchos return to action at The Prestige, hosted by UC Davis and Stanford, at the PGA West Course in Palm Desert, Calif.
