Gaucho's Success Carries Over Into Christmas Break

The trip to San Francisco was awaited with high anticipation from the guys who previously lived there and others who had never seen the area before. We have all heard stories of how the bay area is the coolest place on earth, via the mouth of Ivan Elliott and the unique dance moves that originated in the bay led by Alex Harris. Now it was time to see if this magical place on the other side of the wardrobe and just up the 101 exists in its entirety, I believed.

To begin our trip we flew out of SBA and had a festive game of Uno that lasted forever. Along with the hype of almost winning and the stakes of shrinking our personal decks the people who were sitting around us became interested in our game. At first it was a chuckle hear and there, then I think annoyance of a whole team yelling out loud overwhelmed their interest and made them wish we would get on the plane already. About 45 minutes after the end Massey dwindled his deck down enough to call Uno under his breath so that no one could hear that he only had one card left. This caused a small uproar when the next time around he threw down in final card and took our souls and the game in a strategic execution. I'm watching you next time Massey. We finally were called for boarding and innocently enough we were walked to a designated plane for our departure.

So we were all boarded and ready to get these Nor Cal boys back to bay water when our stewardess comes on and says something along the lines of "Thank you for flying United flight so and so in route to Los Angeles." Wait what for a second no one caught it, but sure enough the flight we were told to board was heading south, obviously in favor of Cecil Brown and James Powell. It was probably a good thing because not two seconds later the pilot came on the intercom with a relaxed and suspiciously slow, drawn out voice that sounded like he was under the influence, I know that I sure wasn't about to trust him a couple miles high. We quickly de-boarded the plane being sure to bump all of our heads, shoulders, and knees on the Volkswagen Bug esque airplane that proved short on space. We finally boarded the correct flight and were on our way.

Once we arrived it was a short trip to the hotel it southern San Francisco. Checked into the Double tree Hotel and enjoyed out-of-this-world chocolate chip cookies that they give out during check in (Don't worry Charles your cookies still reign supreme). A little while after check in we ate Quiznos' sandwiches and right from the start this was a bad deal. Coach Nagey tried to hold his composure as the inadequate workers misspelled, misplaced, and misordered just about everything they could with our sandwiches. Then if that wasn't enough the next day the sandwiches fell blame to our starting point guard, Justin, coming down with food poisoning of some sort. He almost didn't play. Along with his sickness, Paul came down with some sort of stomach illness as well. I guess it's easiest just to blame it on the stooges at Quiznos'. JJ and Paul roughed it out and despite their ailing bodies, made it to the game.

Along with the sounds of JJ coming from the bathroom, there was a pleasant sound that echoed from the other side of the locker room. I looked up and there I found, Emanuel Bidias A Moute in a live performance of the tune "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash. I tell you what, I was inspired and glad to see that David Massey's matured choice of music was rubbing off on E. It was a huge change from the music we are accustomed to hear blasting from his ipod earphones, and I must say that his deep voice made it seem like old Johnny was in the locker room himself.

So post game we all said our good byes to loved ones and headed back to the airport where we once again got on one of the smallest planes in history. Although it was going the right way this time. We made it home safe and prepared for our next game against the mystery school, Van Guard.

So pretty much we played Van Guard University, we won, and I found out that they reside in Costa Mesa, California. I tried asking around before the game if anyone knew where this mid-preseason, notch on our belt team was from and no one seemed to know. Turns out they are a Christian school about 50miles south of Los Angeles with a seemingly pleasant campus as shown on their school website. It was an awkwardly placed game on our schedule, however improved our record. The next game will be against the new and improved San Diego University Toreros on Friday the 22 of December. Oh and if anyone could tell me what a Torero is that would be awesome, thanks, Happy Holidays.
