Freshman center Greg Somogyi will need to get stronger, but he could develop into an outstanding post player for the Gauchos...Has very good skills and moves well for a player his size...Could have an immediate impact as a shot blocker.

Somogyi attended Woodside Priory in Portola Valley, Calif., for his final two years of high school...Earned All-CIF Central Coast Section and All-Private School Athletic League honors following his senior season...Led Woodside to consecutive Private School Athletic League titles...Woodside was undefeated in league play in each of Somogyi's two campaigns...Helped the program to a pair of second-place finishes in the CIF Central Coast Section...Averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds, and six blocked shots per game as a senior...Scored a career-high 32 points in a game against Forest Lake Christian School...Coached by Al Klein.

Gergely Somogyi was born October 1, 1989 in Budapest, Hungary...The son of Gyorgy and Rita Somogyi...During the summer of 2008, he played for the Hungarian under-20 National Team...Speaks Hungarian as well as English...His most memorable sports moment came during a high school basketball playoff game when he tipped-in a missed free throw to tie the game with 1.6 seconds to play...Enjoys hanging out with friends and going to the beach...Has two brothers, George and Gabor...Somogyi and his brother George were teammates at Woodside Priory in 2006-07...Majoring in business economics.
