Jonathan Metzger-Jones is in his second year as a member of the UC Santa Barbara staff, his first as an assistant coach. He spent the 2007-08 campaign as the program's Director of Operatons.
Metzger-Jones's duties include all aspects of on-court coaching, recruiting, and scouting. On the court, he works with the backcourt players.
Prior to his arrival in Santa Barbara, Metzger-Jones spent one year in the Director of Operations position at Cal State Fullerton where he was in charge of the program's film exchange and team managers. Among other things, he also assisted in scouting reports and game preparation, recruiting coordination and player visits, team travel, player academic supervision and facility scheduling.
Metzger-Jones's first collegiate basketball experience also came under Burton, for whom he played at West Valley College in Saratoga, Calif., from 1997-2000. In his final season at West Valley, he was the team's Most Valuable Player and Team Captain. That season, he also led the state in three-pointers with 123.
Following his stint at West Valley, the native of Oakland, Calif., moved on to the University of the Pacific where he played two years for Bob Thomason's Tigers. As a senior in 2001-02, Metzger-Jones tied for the team-lead with 48 three-point baskets and he finished his career in the top-10 all-time for three-point shooting. He twice earned all-tournament honors while at Pacific, doing so at the Nebraska Huskers Classic and the New Mexico Lobos Thanksgiving Tournament.
Following his career at Pacific, Metzger-Jones spent time playing professionally in Italy, Switzerland, Denmark and Finland. From 2000-07, he was also a Site Director/Counselor for the Golden State Warriors Youth Basketball Camps.
Metzger-Jones graduated from Pacific in 2002 with a B.S. in business administration. He also graduated from Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, the same school that produced former Gaucho All-American Brian Shaw.
