SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UCSBGauchos.com is going mobile. CBS College Sports has rolled out a smartphone-friendly version of the site that enables users to access some of the most frequently demanded content on their mobile device.
The smartphone-friendly version of UCSBGauchos.com is essentially the headline content (recaps/releases) and some associated content (html box scores and bios). Because of the dynamic nature of the schedule pages, those are not yet available but the goal is to get them compatible as soon as possible.
When a user visits UCSBGauchos.com (the front page or any sport page), an auto-detect script will determine what version of the site the user should receive. If the user is coming to UCSBGauchos.com via a fully-enabled web browser, then he/she will be delivered the fully-enabled version of the site. If the user is not coming to UCSBGauchos.com via a fully-enabled web browser (most smartphones), then he/she will be delivered the smartphone-friendly version of the site.
The appearance of the content will vary from smartphone-to-smartphone. Testing was performed on a Motorola Q, a Blackberry, a Palm Treo, an iPhone, and an HTC Touch. Each presented the content differently but in general, the results were very good. The iPhone actually boasts a fully-enabled web browser and therefore is delivered the fully-enabled version of UCSBGauchos.com.
